Sinterklaas Day

We had a fun Sinterklaas day (for those of you non-Dutch folks, it's sort of like the Dutch Christmas)!  Dec. 5th we went to Oma and Opa's house (Julie's grandparents) and had a little party.  It was fun hanging out with family, but the highlight for Jonah and the other kids was a visit from Sinterklaas himself!
(Jonah & Hayden)
All the kids got a little gift and a candy cane from him, then as we sang "Sinterklaas Kapoentje" Swarte Piet threw candy in the door, which always surprises the kids (and I guess adults too).  Jonah claims he got the most candy.
So that night Jonah and Jaxon both fell asleep on the way home, so I put the cookies and milk and wooden shoes out for Sinterklaas and of course the carrots for his horse.  When the kids awoke the next morning, SURPRISE, their shoes were filled!

Jonah was most excited about the gingerbread house kit, so much so that for the next 2 hours he asked me every 5 minutes if we could make it.  Finally Jaxon was asleep so we decorated our gingerbread house.
It turned out not too shabby, but as you can see Jonah piece by piece lost most of his clothes.  He insisted on sitting on the counter so he could reach the gingerbread house better, but at one point he fell in the sink and got wet.  Such is the life of Jonah Kai!

WOW -- what a cool Sinterklaas Day!! Swarte Pete hasn't ever been to our house yet...he doesn't have our address, apparently. We told the kids we were going to write him a letter and ask him to come next year! Looks like you guys had a great time - I barely recognized Hayden - she's so old!
